Prices of propane and butane rose in November due to supply concerns stemming from heightened tensions in the Middle East.<\/p>\n
As of October 6, forecasts for November CP prices were $660\/ton for propane and $710\/ton for butane. However, risks associated with transiting the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea made it difficult to predict the normalization of exports from the Middle East,<\/p>\n
leading to continued high demand and procurement difficulties for US butane, and ultimately, higher prices. Crude oil prices temporarily fell due to expectations of US-Iran talks and peace in Ukraine,<\/p>\n
but geopolitical risks resurfaced following reports of attacks on Saudi Arabian energy facilities and airports, as well as threats to maritime shipping.<\/p>\n
As a result, spot prices on November 28 surged to $770\/ton for propane and $820\/ton for butane. However, However, following what appears to have been a price adjustment by Saudi Aramco,<\/p>\n
November CP prices were $720\/ton for propane (up $40 from October) and $780\/ton for butane (up $50 from October). Therefore, concerns about supply chains in the Middle East,<\/p>\n
difficulties in procuring butane, and rising futures prices are thought to have contributed to the rise in CP prices in November.<\/p>\n
Looking ahead, uncertainty surrounding the situation between the United States and Iran remains. Therefore, LPG prices may continue to fluctuate depending on developments in crude oil prices and the situation in the Middle East. We will continue to closely monitor market conditions.<\/u><\/p>\n
